What to do to suspend or revoke a certificate?

To suspend or revoke a qualified certificate you need to fill out an online form -> [Suspension/revocation form]

Who can suspend/revoke a qualified certificate?

  • A qualified certificate containing a Subscriber’s data can be suspended/revoked only at the Subscriber’s request.
  • A qualified certificate containing additional data can be suspended/revoked both by the Subscriber and by an authorized representative of the given entity.

 

Revocation

This is a permanent deactivation of the qualified certificate which cannot be subsequently used. EuroCert revokes a certificate within 24 hours after receiving the request. A revoked certificate is placed on a Certificate Revocation List (CRL).

A certificate may be revoked once the circumstances below have occurred or it is reasonably suspected that they have occurred:

  • wrong, incorrect or not true data in the certificate,
  • change of data in the certificate,
  • loss of control over the private key due to its loss, theft,
  • compromise, disclosure of access codes (e.g. PIN, PUK),
  • private key damage

Important information!

  • A revoked certificate cannot have its validity restored.

 

Suspension

This a temporary deactivation of a qualified certificate which cannot be longer than 7 days. After this period, a certificate is automatically revoked if the suspension has not been cancelled. EuroCert suspends a certificate within 24 hours after receiving the request. A suspended certificate is placed on a Certificate Revocation List (CRL).

A certificate may be suspended once the circumstances below have occurred or it is reasonably suspected that they have occurred:

  • wrong, incorrect or not true data in the certificate,
  • change of data in the certificate,
  • loss of control over the private key due to its loss, theft,
  • compromise, disclosure of access codes (e.g. PIN, PUK),
  • private key damage

Important information!

  • Once a request to suspend a certificate is placed, a Subscriber will receive a confirmation thereof at the e‐mail address provided in the request.
  • If a certificate is being revoked as a result of its suspension, then the date of the certificate’s revocation is the same as the date of the certificate’s suspension. This means that an electronic signature created in the suspension period does not have any legal effect.
  • After the certificate’s suspension is cancelled, the legal effect of the electronic signature verified with this certificate and created during the suspension supervenes as of the date of the suspension cancellation.

 

Cancellation of the suspension

This is cancellation of certificate’s suspension which can be done within 7 days after the date of suspension. It restores the certificate’s validity by removing information about it from the CRL. EuroCert cancels the suspension within 24 hours after receiving the request.

Certificate suspension may be cancelled in the event of failing to confirm the premises justifying suspending a Certificate, in particular after Subscriber confirms this fact.

  • After the certificate’s suspension is cancelled, the legal effect of the electronic signature verified with this certificate and created during the suspension supervenes as of the date of the suspension cancellation.
  • Once a request to cancel a certificate’s suspension a is placed, a Subscriber will receive a confirmation thereof at the e‐mail address provided in the request.
